MIT’s $100 Linux laptop vs. Origami

Why would anyone mock a laptop that costs $100 and is primarily for distribution to those who can not afford anything better?

MIT is developing a bare bone, mobile computer that will be distributed through UN programs to people in developing countries. It will lack many features found on a typical personal computer, such as a hard disk and software and will run on Linux OS.

Microsoft may not like it (Bill Gates on MIT’s $100 PC) for just that reason, but they also may not like it because of their own Origami device.
There is no doubt that Origami will be far better, but it will also be 5-9 times more expansive. There is hardly going to be any competition here, those who will use $100 computers can not afford Origami device anyway. What is really bugging MS may just be the fact that Linux is going to spread faster then Windows in developing countries.
