If you are using del.icio.us daily you have more then likely noticed that it has been slow as of lately. Especially if you use more advanced features like tag rolls and link rolls to port your delicious links to your website and have easier access to it. As announced on thier blog they were upgrading to better hardware that was suppose to allow roll-outs of new feature to make del.icio.us even better.
But something happened and result of upgrades has meant more problems then benefits. I am sure they are working hard to get things right, but this is one more example how having our important data somewhere out there can be problematic.
In order for these type of services to gain mass adoption they must prove that they are capable of providing consistent and reliable use at least 99.97 percent to early adopters.
So far del.icio.us has shown less then that. I love their service and wonder why it took this long to get to this point. But you can not let problems last for 72 hours or more. And communication about issues must be far better then shown so far.
